If you’re seeing the Insufficient BNB, Insufficient ETH, or, Insufficient POL pop-ups, you’ve come to the right place! We’ll break down what each of these messages mean and what you can do to resolve them to move forward on your transactions.
Insufficient BNB:
The most common reasoning for why this pop-up shows is because you do not have enough BNB on BSC to cover the cost of fees.
When conducting transactions on BSC, you'll need BNB to cover gas costs.
How to Resolve:
In order to remove the error and move forward on the transaction you're looking to do, you'll need to acquire some BNB on BSC.
You can check out one of our available payment providers to purchase BNB. At the moment, Ramp is the only provider that supports BNB. You'll head to: https://ramp.network/buy and search BNB to purchase.
Binance has a pretty efficient guide on purchasing BNB as well which you can check out here: https://www.binance.com/en/how-to-buy/bnb
Insufficient ETH:
The most common reasoning for why this pop-up shows is because you do not have enough ETH on your respective network to cover the cost of fees.
For example, if you’re looking to bridge funds from Optimism to Ethereum mainnet, you’ll need ETH on Optimism.
Accidental Pop-up:
Another way that this pop-up could occur is disconnecting from a dApp and the incorrect wallet being used in Rainbow.
For example, if you disconnect (or switch wallets) on a dApp but leave the wallet itself connected in Rainbow, the dApp may send the “sign message request” to the original connected wallet which prompts the pop-up.
To fix this, you’ll want to switch to the wallet you have open (or re-connect) to move past the pop-up and move forward with the transaction.
The main thing to keep in mind is to have the wallet you want to use open before connecting.
An additional way to correct this is if this pops up, go ahead and closing out of your request in Rainbow. This can be done by dragging down on that request and then swiping right to your transaction history where the request should appear. This should have the pop-up disappear as you move forward!
Resolve:
There are a few different paths to resolving this message so you can continue to move forward on interacting with those funds:
You can purchase ETH on your respective network directly from one of our purchase providers. Check out our guide here for additional information: https://rainbow.me/support/app/purchase-eth-on-rainbow
If you currently have assets, you can use the Socket Refuel Bridge to swap those tokens. You can find that bridge and additional information at: https://www.bungee.exchange/refuel
Keep in mind, if you're swapping from L1 assets to L2 (which is Polygon) costs can be expensive!
An additional path, if you have available assets, would be to use SmolRefuel which can aid in getting you those tokens. You can find that bridge available at: https://smolrefuel.com/
Insufficient POL:
If you’re receiving this error it means that you might not have enough POL tokens on the Polygon network.
Previously, the token for Polygon gas transactions was matic and where this error message used to display as Insufficient Matic. It could get a bit confusing because Matic tokens were on Polygon, Ethereum, and other networks too.
Moving forward since the migration, you'll need POL tokens on the Polygon network to pay for gas there.
